An Asciilands account is optional. The official FAQ says the game is free in a desktop or laptop browser, and that guest progress saves. Discord login is what that FAQ ties to cross-device progress, friends, parties, and towns. This page restates those three answers and links the rest.

The title screen has Sign in with Discord, Play as guest, and Customize. Appearance is described on Getting Started. It is not a class or a level.

Is it free?

Yes. The official FAQ says Asciilands is completely free to play, with optional donations if you want to help keep the servers up. Donations are answered on the FAQ. Play stays at the official Play page.

Do I need Discord?

Not to start. The same FAQ says progress saves for guest accounts and for Discord logins. Logging in with Discord is what continues progress across devices, and what unlocks Friends, Parties, and Towns. Towns repeats that gate. The community link is Discord.

Will there be a wipe?

The official FAQ says progress does save, for guests and for Discord logins, and that the world itself is persistent. It also says wipes are possible later. Unless a wipe is fully necessary, that would probably be for builds and the world, and not necessarily for items. This page does not add a guess about characters. The same answer is on the FAQ.
